WHO IS IMPACTED?

We believe that the pride flag has many negative conotations and is a belief system that is not held by the majority in our town. We do not believe that it is a symbol of inclusion but rather excludes those who hold traditional views on marriage, gender, and family from our town. 

This petition comes from those concerned citizens who hold traditional views and should have the right to express them without fear of discrimination or prejudice. We are asking that our views be respected and to show that respect, are asking for the removal of all pride flags that are government / tax payer funded from our town.

WHAT IS AT STAKE?

If things remain the same and pride flags continue to be flown, we believe that those who hold traditional views will be unfairly targeted and targets of unjust discrimination and prejudice. We believe that this goes against everything Canada / St.Marys stands for as we as Canadians represent many cultures and beliefs who do still hold to traditional views. We are diverse in a cultural and religous sense and should be allowed to hold to our traditional views on marriage, gender, and family without prejudice. Pride does not allow for the inclusion of these beliefs.

WHY IS NOW THE TIME TO ACT?

We believe that traditional values such as sexual morality and modesty, decency, and the human right to hold in good conscience ones belief are being eroded by these flags.

We believe our children should be protected by being taught the meaning of traditional values without fear of discrimination. Our belief in marriage between a man and a woman, gender being either male or female, and the value of family is something that should not be taken for granted and that every person has a fundamental right to believe in or express this ideal without fear of unjust discrimination or prejudice from anyone in a just and fair society. The pride flags are symbolic of systematic discrimination and subjugation of these very values and we stand against that very thing for the future of our town.
